Um...I haven't read much, but I was wondering if any of you have, and if so what did you think of it?
I personally couldn't stand it, I thought the writing was terrible and every time I tried to read more I ended up throwing the book down in disgust. However, the plot is good. I just couldn't stand the writing.
My brother and sister who have also read it liked the book a lot though (although my sister admits she doesn't like the writing much either, the story is a lot more obvious to her and she likes it). I saw the Eragon movie with them the other day and loved it, but my siblings hated how far from the book the movie was.
So my review is that the actual story is okay (or even good, but I haven't read enough to say that), but the writing is BAD. I couldn't stand reading it.
What did you think?

I have read it. I found it a long time ago and to be honest when I first read it I thought it was better than sliced bread. But several years later, and after reading the master works of George R. R. Martin and such, I find that the story is good and would make a great movie, but the writing tends to be over flowery in some points and a lack of description in other. Also, I think he must have a thesaurus sitting beside him at all times because some of his extensively long words don't quite fit with the vocabulary he had already used. The really big words (yes I know I sound a little childish) I was a little peeved over because I had to look them up. I'm all for children learning new words but some of these were pointless when a better looking and sounding word would have fit perfectly. He was trying to show off.
But like I said once ago I enjoyed this book, but lately I have not been able to get past the first couple of chapters.

Interesting...maybe I should read it and pretend to be younger than I am now. That might help me get through more of it.
I really hate people who overuse big words. ESPECIALLY if another word would have fit better. I love playing around with words to create moods and feelings by putting just the right word in - people who just shove bigger words in for the sake of it really annoy me.
But I have to admit, I haven't read enough of Eragon to notice that. >.<

I finished reading it last night. I have to say that it really isn't my type of writing in the first place. The farthest I've really went with fantasy has been Harry Potter, which I love, but overall I thought that it was pretty good. I agree with Tyler that he used big words, and he may have used tham to show off, but I understood it pretty well. I struggled the most through the Prologue, but near the end I understood it more. I was sort of hard for me to get into, but I never really hated to read it. However, there were parts that I didn't like. I agree with Tyler that he thought that Eragon was God's gift the the reading world. Hehehe, but I thought that it was amazing that a 15-year-old boy could've written it. I was impressed.

Hmm...I don't like thinking like you cause let's face it, you're a dork!
I heard the movie was not as great as the book, obviously books are always going to be better because Hollywood always alters the story.
After hearing what you guys have to say about the book, I don't think I'll read it.

hmm....well....i'm really not as.....well....i don't know. i clearly don't read as much as most of you. i love reading, but i don't read as often as i want to, because i'm usually playing my trumpet instead. lol But Eragon is my favorite book. I realllllllllly loved it. I thought the first chapter was kinda hard to get through, but after that it was amazing and i couldn't put it down. If the writing was "bad" I wouldn't have noticed, because...well...It doesn't bother me? Or I just wouldn't have noticed because I'm me. So I think the book is amazing....but that's me....so...yeah...
and I hated the movie. As a movie it was probably pretty good...but compared to the book, which it was supposed to be like...it was horrible. _________________ *Megan

I had the book read to me and saw the movie. I'd say it's a little too simple because I could tell what was going to happen, unless I overlooked a great deal of foreshadowing. The movie looked amazing, but had only a portion of the plot. My final word is that the best way to tell that story would be via comic book series. _________________ “I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.” -- Robert McCloskey

I read Eragon a while ago and thought it was a really good fantasy story for kids - I'm guessing this is the age range the author was aiming for, (considering he was a kid when he wrote it) so I was amazed by it and couldn't wait to read the 2nd one.
However I've just read the 3rd now, which I believed to be the last in the "trilogy".. and was very disappointed to learn that at the end (in an author's note) he's decided to write another two!
I don't think I can read another 2 books! The third was becoming repetitive enough as it is.
With regards to the movie... I didn't like it at all. Thought the acting was rubbish and they made it really cheesy and basically I hated the guy who played Eragon.
