Gone with the wind
By Margaret Mitchell

Book Summary:Explores the depths of human passions with an intensity as bold as its setting in the bluff red hills of Georgia. A superub piece of story telling, it brings the drama of the Civil War and Reconstruction to life.

This is the tale of Scarlett O'Hara, the spoiled, rutherless daughter of a wealthy plantation owner, who arrives at young womanhood just in time to see the Civil War sweep away the life for which her upbringing has prepared her. After the fall of Atlanta she returns to the plantation and by stubborn shrewness saves her home from both Sherman and Carpet baggers. but in the process she hardens. She has neared starvation and she vows never to be hungry again.

In these vivid pages live the unforgettable people who have captured the attention of millions of every age. Here are Rhett Butler, Scarlett's counterpart a professional scoundrel ass courageous as Scarlett herself; Melanie Wilkes, a loyal friend and true gentlewoman and Ashley Wilkes for whom the world ended at Appomattox. Here are all the character and memorable episodes that make Gone with the Wind a book to read and re-read and remember forever.

My Review: It was a great and beautiful book with a constant mantra through out the years of the story. I liked it very much, it's one of my favorites.

My Favorite Character: Rhett Butler is my favorite. He's the most real character I've ever read. He is one person in all of the South who has the capacity of chosing his battles for things that he really feels for.

Rating: 9/10

Pages: 1037 pages

Have any of you read this? I reccomend it! It's an awesome book. When I began reading it I was expecting one of the dragging,, boring type of books that you read just to be able to say you did. This is worth alot more than that.

Thanks

I haven't seen the movie (though I want to...) You'll have to tell me how it is once you see it.

I'd recommend reading the book before any movie, btw. That's just me though....

Ah!! I absolutely love Gone With the Wind.  Except of course, that Scarlett is a stupidhead... But she couldn't help that.  Margaret Mitchell on the other hand, could have provided us with a more satisfying ending...  Speaking of which you're reading Rhett Butler's People, the "sequel" someone else wrote right?  How is it?

Emily- Yeah, Scarlett IS a butthead. BUT Rhett Butler's People is actually pretty good. Though it'd be really confusing if you hadn't read GWTW. I'm writing comments for you all over my copy so be prepared... lol. I'm almost done. I'll give it to you soon.

Nope. She forgot to bring it in Friday so I have to wait till tomorrow. Unless she can hangout today. But that's doubtful since her parents don't drive when it's snowing.

Do you want to read it first? I still have to finish RBP and I have a couple other books right now. (Costco rocks.)

JUst one actually...but I had a pile I wanted to get while I was there. The one I got is Dark Angels I think. (Yeah, it sounds lame from the title...) but it's about this girl named Alice who is returning to England after she went to France to escape some sort of scandel. Okay that also makes it sound lame...but I think it'll be good, it's supposed to be a Bestseller.

Ahhh. Sounds interesting.  By the way, I found a bookstore I really like.  I always assumed it would be bad, so I never actually went in until yesterday.  I think it's called Giant Book Sale or something.  It's by Marshalls and iParty.  Do you know the one I'm talking about?

Cool. I don't think I've seen it. I'll look for it next time. Did you get anything good there?

I didn't actually get anything. But they had a ton of used books and stuff and all of the paperbacks were all around two or three bucks.
