A Muse's Response - Poem of the Month - JanuaryNOTE: This should be read AFTER "A Few Words to My Muse." It will make much more sense that way. Enjoy!
A Muse’s Response
You claim that I have taken your voice
But I say I have strengthened it.
Does not two voices send birds fleeing the faster?
There is no you without me.
I am your essence,
Your need to live.
With my leave,
A single word spoken from my lips,
You will have no road to walk upon.
The path will vanish,
You lost and forgotten.
What will you do then?
Wait until freedom lends you his hand?
I fear you will never leave the spot.
Freedom never comes to those who are idle
And yet that is your destiny if I were gone.
My voice,
The one you say is but a whisper,
Will not be there to guide you.
I am your guardian,
The Warden to your dreams.
No harm can befall you when in my presence.
But yet,
You think to deny me your “gift”?
You have no chest strong enough,
No place far enough,
That will keep me from my bounty.
I hold the key to your heart.
Do you see it glinting in the light?
It is mine as is your life.
I take both as my reward.
There can be no greater deed,
None that any man has accomplished,
Than what I have done for you.
Be thankful that I do not take your words to heart.
Else wise I should think to leave you
As you ask
And find one who can walk a path
With nothing but mild directions.
And he would be grateful for that!
But take faith
Know that I am here
Listening for your heartbeat,
Knowing you have not but my words as guidance.
Many things lie in your future.
Take my hand and we’ll walk it alone.
Take my hand and we’ll walk together.
